Abstract:
ABSTRACT
A breakdown of the electrical insulation system on high voltage generators at Ubungo Gas Plant causes catastrophic failure of the electrical equipment and brings large process downtime losses. To determine the sources of the failures of high-voltage generators insulation system, this research have been conducted based on existing maintenance practices analysis in order to develop a model that will mitigate frequent failures based on Planned Maintenance.
The objective of this research is to develop a maintenance measure which will mitigate frequent failures on insulation systems of high voltage generators at Ubungo Gas Power Plant. To meet the main objective two specific objectives have been studied: 1) Assessing the existing maintenance practices on the insulation system of high-voltage generators in order to propose type of maintenance program to be developed and 2) Developing and testing of maintenance model that supports mitigative approach based on Computerized Maintenance Management System, CMMS which will alert the senior management of Tanzania Electric Supply Company Ltd,-(TANESCO) about the need for carrying out mitigative maintenance measures on insulation system of high-voltage generators.
As a result of this research, a process of developing mitigative maintenance measures on insulation system has been developed. Furthermore, the Predictive Maintenance model has been tested, that will influence the implementation of the model to other TANESCO power plants. Finally, implementation of this research maintenance model will have substantial benefits to the Ubungo Gas Plant and will be taken as example on mitigating insulation system failure to other plants, factories, and industries with generators, motors and dry type transformers.
