Abstract:
ABSTRACT
The study on the development of electrical energy management plan was carried out at Lugalo Referral Hospital. Specifically, the study evaluated equipment maintenance at Lugalo Hospital and its effect on electrical energy management, evaluated maintenance management plan and its effect on the electrical energy management plan, and finally developed a new electrical energy management plan capable of reducing electrical energy consumptions at the hospital and aggregate electrical energy cost at large.
Both quantitative and qualitative data were collected using questionnaires, observations and documentary analysis. Quantitative data were analysed using computer sub-programme: Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20 which generated frequencies and percentages. Qualitative data were subjected to content analysis.
The findings revealed that equipment maintenance may affect electrical energy consumed by the equipment, and the management of the facility may affect electrical energy management of the facility. This implies that proper equipment maintenance and proper management of the hospital facilities reduce electrical energy consumptions. The findings also established different ways of developing a new electrical energy management plan for Lugalo Referral Hospital.
Based on the research findings, the study concludes that the electrical energy management plan for Lugalo Referral Hospital is to be developed for the purpose of reducing electrical energy consumptions, which will reduce the operational cost of the hospital by about 40% (see Table 4.10). As such, the study recommends that the similar research on electrical energy management need to be undertaken in other hospitals in Tanzania.
