Abstract:
Availability performance of sewerage system at MNH is not of promising condition as the problem of sewage spilling out of their manholes can be noticed. The hospital sewerage matter contains many hazardous chemicals, viruses and bacteria which are harmful to the people and can impact the environment. There is inefficiency in carrying out maintenance work to the sewerage system. The study aims in developing maintenance management system for sewerage system at MNH. This can be achieved by assessing the factors affecting efficient maintenance practice of sewerage system at MNH, and hence developing a maintenance management system.
Structured questionnaire were distributed to 60 respondents were selected using purposive sampling design. Data collected were analyzed using SPSS software version 25. Analysis showed a hierarchical regression(R2= .824) which demonstrated that availability of materials and spare parts, giving awareness and education to the users, number of drainage attendants, duration in repair and replacement works and availability of working tools, machines and PPE was significantly related to the availability performance of sewerage system, after controlling the variables such as availability of water and availability performance of the public water. It is concluded that there is a correlation beween the availability performance of the sewerage system and the identified factors affecting efficient maintenance practice. It is recommended that; number of drainage attendants should be increased, awareness and education to the users should be insisted, the management should purchase at least 1 power rodder and jet rodder and maintaining adequate stock of materials and spare parts.
